Out-Of-The-Box Childbirth Ed - Yes!

I was just a guest on a fabulous new internet TV show called "Bring Birth Home TV". On it I talk about the play "Birth", BOLD's new Birth Change Campaign, and my new birth worker certification program.

I've been thinking alot about childbirth education lately and become more convinced that we've got to be offering more out-of-the-box teaching tools for pregnant moms that move them to own their birth experiences. To me, out-of-the-box, multi-sensory teaching is the next wave of childbirth education. We can no longer just fill our MINDS up with information. We must also fill up our HEARTS & SOULS because this is what take us to our true self and moves us to action. And when we make birth decisions from our true self, when we birth in our true self, that's an empowered birth.

My newly trained birth facilitators are having great results with the pregnant moms they work with and I think this is why. My certification program is out-of-the-box - perfect to teach on it's own and great to sprinkle into traditional childbirth education (which definitely has its place and should not just go away!).

The Birth Change Campaign launches

So much exciting birth change is going on in maternity care these days it's knocking my BOLD socks off. Okay,we aren't there yet, but we are inching closer to mother-centered care.

I'll take an inch!

More people are using midwives for low-risk births. Mothers are being discouraged to induce before 39 weeks. And high profile newspapers like NY Times are finally understanding that it's not abnormal, hippy lit to present an article that talks about "birth as normal."

There IS movement towards change.

That's why BOLD is launching The Birth Change Campaign. To increase the noise from real people about the realities of childbirth today. It's happening in communities (May) and on college campuses (October). And we're doing it creatively, using my play "Birth" to move people to action.

31 days - 31 communities/college campuses.

Organize a performance (or now a screening of the play) in your community. Or just go see a performance in your community.

Birth IS changing and MUST change more. Be a part of it. Or as I like to say (with a nod to Gandhi):

BOLD the Birth Change You Wish to See in the World.
