Nap with Me

Can't wait to start napping with moms around the world tomorrow! The My Body Rocks Project's first annual 40-Day Nap Challenge for Moms is about to begin!

I definitely need it, as BOLD and The My Body Rocks Project are both exploding these days. BOLD's 5th anniversary is coming up and it will be BOLD-tacular!!! That's why I need to sleep now!

This course is actually not just sleep...I'll be teaching moms a powerful yogic sleep called yoga nidra. I use it and I got trained in it just over a year ago. Yoga nidra was a life-changing tool for me professionally and as a mom. I just wrote about it in Mothering Magazine in a piece called "My Body Rocks."

Throughout the 40-Day Nap Challenge I will be blogging about it in the Huffington Post. Read my first post on the Nap Challenge called, "Are You There Sleep? It's Me, Mom on the Edge?".

It's not too late to join us napping! Register now!

Posting Some BOLD Praise...Finally!

Well, this was going to be my year for posting all the fabulous BOLD feedback I get every week in my inbox, by mail, phone...and it keeps slipping to the bottom of my to-do list. But not today!

I was reading a letter from Lori Tiessen Banman, a doula who in 2009 brought BIRTH to Winnipeg in Canada and then buoyed by its success and impact decided to take it to the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July 2010. She shared this:

"We brought out many emotions from the audience and helped many people to realize that they have a voice when they enter the hospital to birth their babies.

I am very proud that we drew in so many people from the public who were not connected to the childbirth network. I am even more excited that the group of nurses who attended a performance initiated a meeting with labor and delivery nurses at their hospital and doulas to bridge an understanding between them. Thrilling!"

It's feedback like this that re-connects me all the time to the grassroots passion and difference every BOLD location is making. Lori's package to BOLD included film footage from the play, a poster, and also a fabulous tote bag they printed for audience members...but what I really loved the most was her handwritten note, filled with what BOLD is all about: real stories, real results that translate into making childbirth mother-friendly. We trickle our consciousness-raising up through theatre, BOLD Red Tents...and it works. This I know!

My piece in the Huffington Post

I wrote a piece last week in the Huffington Post on sleep and motherhood that got lots of comments on Facebook and the Huffington Post site. The piece is called "Memo to Moms: It's Eat, Pray, Sleep."

Last year I realized mothers who want to change the world - or just want to have a coherent conversation with their neighbor- must get enough rest. Without it, I know I'm a mess. So in 2010 I got trained to be a iRest yoga nidra (yogic sleep) teacher so I could use these methods in The My Body Rocks Project workshops I teach. That got me thinking: what if every year in the spring I challenged moms to nap with me for 40 days?

If you don't know, the number "40" is hugely significant: there are tons of biblical references to "40 days" and its connection to transformation. That's why I picked 40 days. Also, I thought napping every day once per year for 40 days is doable for most moms, right? It's like instead of a spring fasting cleanse you can do a spring napping cleanse!

So after you read my piece in the Huffington Post go check out my 40 Day Nap and Transformation Challenge for Moms and sign up!

Napping starts March 29th and ends Mothers Day weekend!

Happy napping!

BIRTH is now in Spanish!

"Nacer" hit my inbox this week! Yes, the Spanish translation of the play is here. Waa-hoo!

Thank you Cecilia in Uruguay for making this happen. There will be multiple performances of BIRTH late 2011 and 2012 throughout Uruguay. I can't wait!
