- Karen is the playwright for the play, BIRTH and founder of BOLD, a global arts-based movement inspiring communities to make maternity care mother-friendly. She is the mother of two boys, born at home with Mary, Ida, and Stacey -- midwives in Arkansas. In 2003/2004 Karen interviewed over 100 women across the United States about their birth experiences. She wrote BIRTH in response to what she learned from those mothers’ birth stories.
