I haven't written in my blog for months. Why? BOLD 2007 was a smashing success and our office has been busy following up with all those BOLD Organizers out there who did a BOLD event this year.
And that's not all...I'm watching lots of videos. Yes, BOLD videos! Wow - to listen to the BOLD Red Tents filled with mothers telling their birth stories has been the greatest gift to me; but I believe it's an even greater gift to the world. It has inspired me to create a BOLD Library of Truth filled with mothers birth stories. We must have a record of how mothers are giving birth today - from the mothers! Don't let anybody else tell your birth story...tell it yourself. That's my feeling. We've got to lay the truth out on the table and once that's in place THEN major maternity care healing can happen.
I've also been watching BOLD performances of my play Birth...and the fabulous talkback sessions communities are having about maternity care. I just loved hearing an obstetrician in Duluth, Minnesota say after she watched the play that she's not going to allow counting in her labor and delivery room anymore! When she heard how it sounded in the play she said it made her think: that's not an empowering sound. I'm hoping to post a BOLD Talkback online soon because so much of this stuff is juicy!
So - what can I say? Keep being BOLD. It's the only way!
