I've been thinking alot about the word tribe lately. The common modern understanding of tribe is a group consisting of interlinked families or communities sharing a common culture. I love the meaning of a tribe - the commitment it takes to be in a tribe and the benefits communities and individuals reap from being part of a tribe. How wonderful would it be if we viewed all BOLD locations as "families" interlinked through our common goal to make maternity care mother-friendly? In my mind this would make BOLD a global tribe.
As the holidays approach and world issues continue to reiterate the need for us as individuals and communities to be more connected if we are to live a life that affirms peoples human rights I feel compelled to make BOLD 2007 the YEAR OF THE TRIBE. What if communities around the world decided to BOLDly organize around maternity care issues and, as a tribe, we supported each other through our common cause? Locally this would mean communities forming local tribes and then linking together with other local tribes through BOLD.
I think the tribe concept is one that is destined to expand. By naming BOLD 2007 the YEAR OF THE TRIBE I am planting the seed for this concept to grow. Stay tuned...this coming year promises many exciting "tribal" moments!
