BOLD initiative begins!

BIRTH on Labor Day...BOLD. The idea popped into my mind a month or so ago after learning that several productions of BIRTH were thinking of taking place on Labor Day weekend. Made sense... "Labor" Day. I loved it. My mind started turning and I thought what if we challenged people from America and around the world to take my play, BIRTH, and turn it into a movement to make childbirth more mother-friendly around the world? Theatre as social change. Again, I loved it.

I was speaking to Ahri Golden today on the phone, a mother living in Berkeley, California who is doing a radio documentary about birth in America (her website is: www.thinairmedia.org). Ahri has been talking to many birth experts lately and the one comment she consistently gets is that we are currently in one of the darkest times in the history of birth. Wow. This got me thinking. We must make birth mother-friendly now. Current childbirth statistics are frightening. Is one woman each minute really dying in this world from complications due to pregnancy and childbirth? If a statistic even approaching this is true then the time has come to be BOLD.

I'm thrilled that we've already had many requests to do BOLD performances! Maui, Los Angeles, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, and the United Kingdom. So many requests and we haven't even sent out the official BOLD announcement yet! (that goes out tomorrow). My deepest gratitude to all of you who want to be BOLD.

Please consider joining this movement in any way that you can. Reach out to your community through education, truth, and action that makes mother-friendly childbirth not just a wish-list item but a reality. The power is missing in childbirth today. We must reclaim this power in a peaceful, loving way. BOLD is trying to do this!
